Who is Jesus?
Your Savior and Lord
Jesus Loves You Unconditionally
and Desires to Have a Relationship With You
Jesus is who He says He is
“I am the Bread of Life”
John 6:35, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”
John 6:51, “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”
Like the manna that God provided the Jews while they roamed the desert for forty years, Jesus is your daily bread – your sustenance. There is a God shaped hole in all of us that can’t be filled with donuts, jewelry, or awards. While they may “taste good,” they won’t fill us up. In fact, they leave us feeling more depleted, and the vicious cycle for fulfillment continues. When you hunger and thirst for Jesus and follow His will, He nourishes you with His everlasting love, goodness, and saving grace. Jesus, the Bread of Life, is the foundation and the crown.
“I am the Light of the World”
John 8:12, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
We’ve all experienced darkness – whether it’s a comfortable sin we’re reluctant to let go of, or a season of life that, at no fault of our own, comes with suffering. But light always overcomes darkness, and Jesus wants to free you from the shadows. Psalms 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Jesus is the word made flesh, and He is the Light that will guide you to wholeness and holiness.
“I am the Gate”
John 10:9, “I am the gate. Whoever enters by me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture.”
Like a good shepherd, Jesus sleeps in the “doorway” of the sheep pen, protecting you from wandering into jeopardy, and also keeping dangers out. He wants you to lean on Him in your hurts and your worries. He wants to lead you beside still waters and restore your soul (Psalm 23). Jesus meets you here with unconditional love and unending mercy. Enter through the Gate to healing. Be transformed by His love, mercy and grace.
“I am the Good Shepherd”
John 10:11, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.”
John 10:14, “I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me,”
Jesus declaring himself the Good Shepherd calls to mind another biblical shepherd – King David who says, “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.” (Psalm 23) Christ your Lord calls you by name. Do you recognize his voice? He leads you to salvation. Are you following him? Jesus provides everything you need to live free and faithful. Do you trust? He died for you. Do you accept? Jesus will never force His way into your life, because friendship must be authentic, never forced. Jesus is the Good Shepherd, He is always there, watching and waiting for you.
“I am the Resurrection and the Life”
John 11:25-26, “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.’”
With these words, Jesus comforts Martha in the loss of her brother. But He isn’t just trying to ease her suffering, He is proclaiming that He is the source of resurrected life. He is offering you eternal life in Heaven, but also the freedom to live a joyful and healthy life here on earth. “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10) May we all live vibrantly in Christ here and now, according to His promises.
“I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life”
John 14:6, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Not nouns but a name – Jesus doesn’t just show you the way, He is the Way. He doesn’t just explain the truth, He is Truth. And he doesn’t just tell you how to live your life, He is the Life. Knowing Jesus, truly knowing Jesus, means recognizing that He is the one true way to eternal life. Why? Because He is completely faithful and obedient to the Father. And He wants you to share in that divine communion. “When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had been there a long time, he said to him, ‘Do you want to be made well?’” (John 5:6) Jesus understands your suffering and longs to heal and renew you.
“I am the True Vine”
John 15:1, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower.”
Jesus is asking for intimacy with you. “Abide in me, as I abide in you.” (John 15:4) He knows that this is the way God will make your life fruitful – literally. As branches attached to Christ, we can share our God-given gifts and grow God’s Kingdom. Apart from Jesus (not abiding in Him), we can do nothing (we cannot bear eternal fruit). “But the fruit of the (Holy) Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness gentleness, and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22-23) There may be some pruning involved, but only for our good and the good of all God’s people. Take comfort in that intimacy and closeness with Jesus and God, your Heavenly Father.
